What's My Story?
In a nutshell: I went from graphic design and photography in college to accounting, real estate, commercial property management and real estate to moving to Maine from the DC suburbs to buy a bed and breakfast in Maine with my husband. We sold the inn to look for an inn on the water but I became involved with lodging brokerage and am now selling inns, B&B's, hotels, motels and recreational properties statewide. I have always loved cooking and had dreams of owning a small bistro but knew that I don't have what it takes to be a restaurant chef, nor do I want to keep the pace of one. The cooking that I was able to do as an innkeeper fulfilled my needs. And I tried to push the envelope when it came to serving breakfast. Add the Champagne Mimosas and many breakfasts could be considered brunch.
Our guests would ask when I was going to write a cookbook and each winter when we closed down for the season, I thought I'd start one but never did. Until Down East Magazine approached me to do so in May 2010. By June 1, 2010, I began writing and on November 7th I submitted the manuscript along with all of my own recipe photos. Fortunately, I had many of my recipes written down from the inn, but the way I cook (a little of this, a little of that), I needed to recreate the recipes with actual measurements. Needless to say, I had a busy summer and fall.
I love Maine, hiking, photography, the ocean, mountains, looking for moose, chocolate, wine, cheese, crusty bread, flip-flops (from April to November), Seinfeld, travel and Europe, not in any particular order. When I'm not out on listing meetings or showings, I'm usually with my husband exploring Maine with my camera in tow.
From April 2011 to 2013, my husband and I leased The Pomegranate Inn in Portland, Maine where all breakfasts are prepared from my cookbook.
I teach brunch and dinner classes at Stonewall Kitchen about once a month. Check out the class schedule on my events page for details!
I have three mottoes: wine and cheese daily; everything in moderation; and my glass is always half full (unless I'm drinking from it)!
AND NOW I HAVE A SECOND EDITION PUBLISHED JULY 2019! This includes 65 new recipes, including sweet and savory small bites, creative brunch dishes, 10 poached egg specialties and cocktails to take you from brunch to happy hour!
